Take the Tippy Tap Challenge

Simple, affordable and eco-friendly, tippy taps are the ideal for providing handwashing facilities in rural areas. But can you build your own tippy tap? Take part in this fun challenge, learn a new skill and raise money to help provide families in rural Kenya with somewhere safe to wash their hands!

What is a Tippy Tap?

A tippy tap is a simple, low-cost solution to washing your hands in rural areas where there’s no running water. Built from simple, salvageable materials, they are hands free, meaning they reduce the risk of spreading germs. Not only that, but they only use a tiny amount of water, about a tenth of the amount you’d use washing your hands with a mug, which makes them ideal for areas where clean running water is a precious and scarce commodity.

Our partners in Kenya, ReAct Africa and Ace Africa, through the Tippy Tap Kenya initiative, work with primary school children in rural Kenya, providing them with the materials and knowledge they need to build their own tippy taps,  so they can pass on their skills to others in their community.

Their project hopes to reach 600 of the most vulnerable households. But to do that, they need your help.

That’s where the Tippy Tap Challenge comes in…

The Tippy Tap Challenge

The Tippy Tap Challenge is simple. We’d like to invite you to have a go at building your own, functioning tippy tap in your back garden or local park and get your friends, family or colleagues to sponsor you.

If you want to add a twist, you could time yourself and challenge others to beat your time? Or turn it into a team building-activity and see who can build the best tap fastest?

However you choose to take the challenge, you can be sure you’re raising money for a good cause. We’d love you to share your pictures on social media, using the hashtag #TippyTapChallenge. We’ll share the best attempts!
